Modern Insta Bee - April (catch-up post)

April was our last month in the Modern Insta Bee, UK Hive 1. Queen Bee was Rosanne. She bravely asked us all to make the Baseball Curves in solids. I guess I wasn't the only one who had looked at all the blocks in the book and slightly dreaded anyone picking this one.... Well, no one did, for eleven months.... I set off making a test block. It got a bit too small, and a bit wonky.... Perhaps I should have ironed the fabrics beforehand... Thanks to Google I found a brilliant tutorial by Fiona at Benidgolioness providing tips on how to get the block perfect.  She has some great pointers and advise. Saying that, I preferred cutting my blocks with the grain line, i.e. as stated in the book. As I didn't have that many "sunglass worthy" colourful solids at home, I went to The Village Haberdashery for some shopping therapy... Once I sussed the block, it was super fun to make. I had quickly made three blocks... Three blocks laid out, didn't make any...

UK Mini Swap - time to send and round two

It is time!  Some swappers have sent their minis earlier this week as either they or their partner is going away or moving houses. We also had a few who sent early, probably because they were so excited... LOL. Some of the minis posted on Instagram earlier today Looking at the ukminiswap hashtag on Instagram , there are so so many stunning minis making their way to their new owners. If posting on Instagram please tag your post with #ukminiswapsent. When you receive, please post a photo adding #ukminiswapreceived and the maker's IG name. Final day for posting, unless otherwise agreed, is 22 April. If you for any reason at all are running into any difficulties, please contact your swap mama as soon as possible. We will do what we can to help you, and also try to manage the expectations of your partner. Everyone has worked really hard, and we like everyone to receive a mini before the end of the month. More cuddly toys

Here are another three of my cuddly toy models; dog, rabbit and turtle. All are great for using up scarp pieces of fabric. The rabbit is probably the best model for small hands and I usually make this as 'welcome to the world' or christening gift. I wish I had taken photos of all of the ones I have given away through the years! I have made these for donkeys years, but I believe the rabbit and turtle originally came from a Burda magazine, or possibly a Swedish crafting magazine and the dog from a Simplicity pattern???
