Finished quilt - London United Kingdom

Image
Going through my stash, I realised I had quite a few different fabrics with London or United Kingdom related prints. As we are currently living in London, it was apt to make a quilt as a memory.  At the time of making the quilt, I had not yet decided who should have it; therefore I tried to keep it as gender neutral as possible, but throwing in some pink flags in case it was going to a girl.  To tie it all together I added three rows of Union Jacks between the four taller rows of printed fabrics, and used one of the fabrics from the blocks as binding. The back fabric has tiny blue and white stars on a red background. All the yummy colours rolled up. This quilt was long arm quilted by Debbie at  www.longarm-quilting.co.uk .

City Sampler, by Tula Pink (book review)

I was given Tula Pink's City Sampler -100 modern quilt blocks for my recent birthday.  It has, surprise surprise, 100 different quilt blocks structured in six sections - crosses, rectangles, triangles, stripes, squares and haiku. Even if none of the blocks are completely unique or revolutionary - it's a fabulous source of modern and fresh looking blocks! Also, everything is straight lines, no curved seams anywhere; still 100 different blocks!!! I love the fact that the focus is on the blocks, not tools, stitches or other stuff which most other authors seem to fill 50% of their books with. I have just started working my way through the blocks. I am rather randomly making the blocks which i happen to have cut fabric strips for. So far, LOTS of fun, and I have already managed to misread one of the instructions, so the block turned out slightly different than the instruction - but still great! Great inspiration!

Finished quilt - Smitten Stash Buster

A special welcome to those new visitors coming here from Lily's Quilts where I am linking up in the Small Blog Meet. For more quilt related posts, please click the "quilt" category to the left or at the end of this post. I started this quilt back in August 2011 when I attempted patch work properly for the first time. Before, I had only been making simple quilts with squares or rectangles sewn together rather randomly. Originally inspired by one of the ladies at the Crafty Sewing Mamas at the American Baby Centre forums, I decided to try to recreate a pattern called "Smitten". These are some of the Smitten quilts I found on the internet: As it was a bit of a trial and (expected) error, I decided to use scraps I had laying around, including material from ball dresses, men's shirts and children's bedding. Here are a few of the early blocks, some of which were a complete disaster…. Here is a close-up of the block actually used in the
