Personalised t-shirts for DS

Not much sewing, but still some crafting. It's fantastic how much can be done with just a transfer paper, a printer and an iron!

Hugs quilt

One of the young Mamas in one of my online quilting groups suffered a terrible loss, and we decided to do what quilters do - make her a quilt, to wrap up in and to comfort her and her kids. We decided to make the Friendship Hexagon Block, a twist on the traditional Friendship Star block. The block tutorial can be found over at  Don't Call me Betsy . We checked the Mama's Pinterest boards for inspiration and agreed the colours should to be from within the following palettes: These were my two blocks: The top and back were pieced by Lindsey of  Happier than a Bird Quilts , and then quilted and bound by Heidi of Buttons and Butterflies . All in all we were over 20 ladies contributing a few blocks, material, time or money. The finished quilt (photo courtesy of Heidi, more in her blog entry ): HUGS

Paul Feiler cushion cover (quilted)

Image
When we visited the parents in law a few weeks back, MIL showed me the catalogue for Paul Feiler's exhibition at the local gallery with a comment that his paintings would look great as quilts.  I thought that was a brilliant idea and planned on making her a quilt for Christmas, but then her birthday was coming up and there was just about time to make a cushion cover for her.   The one I have tried to recreate was on the page she left open. This piece was made in 2000 and is called Janicon XLI (oil, silver and gold leaf on canvas).   Hopefully this was one of her favourites!

Bean bag toss game - or indoor version of boule / petanque

Image
Summer time usually means playing outdoors for the kiddos, but with the typical British weather it doesn't always work....  DS loves playing boule (or petanque depending on where you are living) outside, but it just doesn't really work with the balls inside. Hence, I created some bean bags and a Jack for him to play with. As Octonauts is his favourite TV series at the moment, a Pirate Jack (as from Calico Jack) was perfect!! I have filled these with halved yellow peas, as I had some at home, but I guess you could use rice or something else, as long as it has some weight to it.
