Winnings from Karen Lewis Textiles

Image
I never win anything, but it suddenly happened! I won!! And what a prize!!!! Donna at The Modern Maker nominated me, and I nominated her (without the other one actually knowing about it!) in Karen Lewis' give away when she reached 6,000 followers on Instagram. Karen is based in the United Kingdom and makes fabulous screen printing designs on (mainly) Kona Solids. Donna and I both won 12 panels each; of our choice, both in colour and in print! I finally settled on plenty of different colours, to fill some of the gaps in my rainbow stash. I asked Karen to use a light grey print instead of her usual white and the result is amazing. These are the fabrics I selected: With the UK mini swap and various bee blocks coming up, I'm looking forward to using some of these fairly soon, albeit sparingly…. To see more of Karen's gorgeous fabrics, head over to her blog and shop . Thank you so, so much Karen (and Donna for nominating me!). xxx

Purple jelly roll

Image
I spotted this jelly roll a few days back and bought it on the spot as it has quite a few purple fabrics which should work brilliantly in my City Sample by Tula Pink (#tula100 on Instagram). As a bonus, I now also have a few reds, greens and blues for other projects.

London Underground fabric

Image
I just couldn't resist getting this fabric with all the colours from the London Underground tube lines! So simple, but absolutely fabulous as a backing fabric for any London or United Kingdom inspired quilt!

Planning the next quilt - wonky cross

Image
I have gathered some black, white and grey toned fabrics for a, what I hope is going to be, a modern looking quilt. I have fallen in love with the "wonky cross" design and planning to do something similar. I haven't yet decided how wide the crosses are going to be or if I am going to make them all the same width, or more random. There is plenty of inspiration on Pinterest, including in my own quilt board .

Giant star quilt

Image
As seen over at Happier than a Bird Quilts , I have made a start on the giant star quilt. It is so fast!!! This is also a great quilt block for showing off fabric with larger patterns. It seems this is originally from  In Color Order , do go there and have a look at the tutorial; although it is really simple using huge HST.

Pink girly log cabin quilt

Image
I decided to use up some of my scrap pink fabrics for a quilt. Progress so far: Good intention to use up scarps, but (as always) I then 'realised' I'd probably needed some more fabric, so went shopping in the sales. Annoyingly, I am now in bed with flu so the project is somewhat stalled :-(

Fabric posters to shopping bags

Image
I stumbled upon these colourful fabric posters today - they'll be absolutely fabulous for bags to donate to the charity Christmas fair!!! Can't wait to get sewing! Note to self: Next time, get more than three!

Increasing the fabric stash, again...

Image
Last week was rather expensive, as it included a trip to Fabrics Galore on Lavender Hill in London and later in the week to the massive Festival of Quilts at the NEC in Birmingham. Both places provided lots and lots of tempting fabrics, notions and books!  Below is some of my "loot", including some lovely Liberty fabrics!!

Festival of Quilts 2012

Image
So many quilts to look at and so many stalls to visit, all selling fantastic fabric, haberdashery, notions, etc that I didn't know I needed until I saw it... This post has some of the quilts that caught my eyes, although only carrying my mobile phone (to avoid the heavy camera bag!), the quality of the photos are so-so; apologies in advance! One from the Winners' wall. Fantastic detail! This one was on the winners' wall and by far the most popular; this being one of eight panels of the quilt I believe this one was 2nd place in the Art category. I love the colours Part of a much larger quilt, sporting 'postcards' Interesting mixture of techniques! Love the detail of this one, almost looks like a  paining! Love the placement of the blocks in this one! Amazing!!! Every feature is made out of fabric, no painting! Tiny, tiny hexagons, LOTS of them. This is just a small part of the quilt... Star quilt in a ...

Fabrics!

Image
I met up with some of the ladies from the sewing club earlier this week to get some more fabric for the hexagon pall we are slowly making by hand. Being in a fabric store, I couldn't resist getting some fabric for myself too... With a pirate themed birthday party coming up, I bagged two different pirate fabrics. They also had some sweet dino and whale fabrics, and some timeless flowers and love hearts.

Fat quarter bundle - Sew Sea

Image
Mmmm, I quite liked the challenge over at Quokka Quilts to create a fat quarter bundle with my favourite fabrics at the Fat Quarter Shop . Sounds easy, right? I promise you, it wasn't! When you have "millions of fabrics" to chose from, it's neigh impossible to only select 15, which all has to match with each other for a potential quilt. To limit the choices, I decided to go for a blue theme. Blue is always fresh, it reminds me of holiday and of the sea, it can work for grownups as well as boys and for girls (if adding in e.g. some red). At the time I started the selection there were surprisingly few blue fat quarter bundles. OK, here it is: Such a great marketing move by the guys at the Fat Quarter Shop!!!  Last day for entries in 15 January, but they already have over 300 entries! Wonder how many have created their bundles, and bough some fabric at the same time? Due to the huge interest, the FQS is going to select three (was one) winners who each get 1...

New fabric...

Image
The intention was to buy some jersey fabric with hedgehogs and elephants, but unfortunately neither is in stock any longer. Instead the "courier" found some other lovely fabrics: rather large hedgehogs on purple fleece, dachshunds on brown jersey, roses on black jersey and multicoloured fleece stripes and ditto jersey stripes.

New fabric shop found!

Image
Hmmmm, not good.... A random search on Google revealed a, for me, until now, unknown fabric shop. It is called Fabrics Galore and is located not far from Clapham Junction.  What a fantastic find!!! Sure, some of the fabrics, e.g. Liberty and Alexander Henry, are last season's lines, but that doesn't really bother me as I am always after a good deal anyway. I managed to restrain myself and only bought three different fabrics. The photo came out a bit strange; the stripy one is white and navy blue, the one with stars is navy blue and red and then finally dinosaurs on a clear blue background.

Some fun fabric

Mmmmm, fabric! Safari animals on a beige background, green elephants on white, small penguins on blue background and dark purple elephants on a yellow background.
