Patch by patch quilters create loving hugs (t-shirt)

Image
I am not very good a resisting funny, sweet or cool t-shirts and recently I have had a chance to design some of my own.  The 'Patch by patch quilters create loving hugs' design as shown above was inspired by the Quilts for Care Leavers project which I've been involved in to and from since the start. The foundation paper pieced flower in the design is a pattern which I am working on for a September feature on the UK Quilters United website .   To see many more of my quilting related designs (most of them available in men, women and youth; and in up to ten different colours), please head over to Amazon -  direct link to my designs .

Stretchy hats for children

Image
These three hats are going skiing in the Austrian mountains within short. It is always great fun making hats for children as they love colours and 'cool' hats!

Trying tea time treat

Image
I am trying the 'Teatime Treat' dress in Rob Merrett's book 'Cute Clothes for Kids'. So far it is very straight forward, although I am not sure I'll do the ties next time as ODD wouldn't be safe climbing in it with them on!

Fleece baby monkey hat

Image
Super simple pattern for a fleece hat. As it is for a baby who cannot yet sit up, I had to skip the dinosaur version and instead make the ears on the top of the head. I can't believe how many shops are selling baby hats with embellishments at the back; what are they thinking?

Dress for a girl who loves whales

Image
I was trying to make a "non-girlie" dress as there seem to be a pink overload in the young girls' departments at the stores. I mixed three really strong patterned fabrics, all containing blue.  Here is the result!

More dribble bibs

Image
Yep, some more dribble bibs!  These are soooo easy to make, yet they are extremely useful.

Vintage fabric - bag, dribble bib and hook

Image
This vintage fabric was a donation and I decided to create some items which we can sell at the charity Christmas Fair. The little hook is great for little hands to hold and shake (bell inside!).

Fleece hats with dinosaur spikes

Image
Just realised I hadn't actually blogged these versions of the fleece hats, which I made last winter.  The stripy one has no spikes, whereas the other ones have plenty of dinosaur spikes in varying sizes. All very popular with the kids in the local area!

Personalised t-shirts for DS

Image
Not much sewing, but still some crafting. It's fantastic how much can be done with just a transfer paper, a printer and an iron!

Getting warmer - the babushka skirt

Image
I brought J with me to the fabric shop last weekend and she pointed at lots of rolls of fabric, saying "MINE! MINE! MINE!". My intention was originally only to get some table cloth, but in the end I bought three of the fabrics she "liked". At least that should increase the likelihood of her wearing the stuff, right? One of the fabric she selected had lots of colourful Russian dolls on white background.  So, here is the babushka skirt! I still need to figure out what she'll wear under the skirt, as she is still in a nappy / diaper, but I guess I'll end up making some bloomers next...

Fleece dino / polar bear hats and hand warmers in Sweden

Image
A friend of mine back in Sweden has just started up making fleece hats (including dino ones!) and hand warmers for the pram (stroller, buggy, push chair...). If you are based in Sweden and would like to order any of these, please make contact with her. She also does customised colours / models. Web: www.bizzi.se   Please let her know you found her via BossyOz if you are ordering anything!

UPDATED - Fleece hoodie wrap re-creation tutorial

Image
This is an update of the  previous version  of the tutorial. N.B. I am using a small scale pattern to show the various steps. I have also added a Flickr group, as I would love to see your creations. Inspired by a fleece yoga wrap seen in a discussion forum and on Etsy, I decided to give it a go re-creating the garment. I have often done this with pieces I have found on the high street or in expensive boutiques; it is a challenge I really like! It actually wasn't that difficult, and all done in a few hours whilst eating breakfast, feeding the littlest one, doing laundry, emptying the dishwasher and accepting a delivery. It took me longer to type up this tutorial than put together the wrap thingy! If this is the end of the post, please click "read more" for the full tutorial! If there is more text below this paragraph, then you are already viewing the full tutorial.

One of eight hoodie projects

Image
I am featured as one of eight hoodie projects over at All Women Stalk with the fleece yoga wrap tutorial I created last year! Both this tutorial and the one for the  buggy bag are generating quite a lot of traffic and comments / emails which is really encouraging! I am hoping to make some other tutorials when I get a chance. Any ideas / requests?

Dress for pirate girl

Image
This is the pirate dress that I made for the little girl at her brother's pirate themed birthday party next weekend, or perhaps it isn't... my husband asked me if this was the mock-up when he saw it... not a good sign.

More scarves or dribble bibs

Image
I have managed to complete some more scrap-busting projects.  The top one has fleece as the back fabric and will be great as a warm scarf during the winter months. The one below has a childish flannel backing in baby blue. Both have a small blue flowery pattern on the front. Two with white stars on blue background. One got a red jersey knit backing to complete the American feel; the other one has the same flannel backing as the picture above. For little ones who is in the teething stages, the flannel is super absorbent and great for keeping their clothes dry for longer. It is also so much easier to take of the dribble bib than changing the t-shirt, shirt, body, onesie or what have you.

Dinosaur hats for sale

Image
I have added some fleece hats for sale in case anyone is interested. The hats for sale are published here and they are available immediately.

Colourful maternity coat

Image
When I was pregnant with DS, I hunted and hunted the high street for a maternity coat that didn't look like a tent or a baby doll dress.... or was an army coat, or cost a fortune.  There was nothing out there that I could wear over a suit to work, even less to be seen in by clients when attending external meetings. Luckily I had some old Burda magazines with maternity clothes at home, and one of them had the simple, clean design that I was after!  To make it a little bit more personal I bought red woven fabric for the outside and bright orange with red dots for the  lining .

Stegosaurus fleece hat

Image
A friend sent me a link to a crochet dino hat on Etsy and said her daughter would love one! As I am not really into crocheting I suggested one made out of fleece instead.  We hunted Pinterest and Etsy for ideas and came up with some alternatives.  As they are rather easy to make and look really fun, I made some extra to test out different sizes. If I hadn't had lots of material available, I probably would have measured properly and made the right size immediately...  Oh, well, perhaps more to go to the Christmas Fair . PS: To my great surprise I found that some ladies sell dino fleece hats for 25USD each!!!

Fleece jacket for toddler

Image
Here is a fleece jacket / coat that I made out of the vehicle fleece fabric that all boys seem to love! To make it a little more personal, it is sporting a red collar and a red zip. As it'll be used during the dark part of the year, it is also decorated with a reflexive ribbon all the way around the bottom hem, to make sure the wearer is always extra visible.
